The Denver Broncos are one of the most successful teams in NFL history, with eight Super Bowl appearances and three wins. However, their Super Bowl history is also marked by some heartbreaking losses.
The Broncos' first Super Bowl appearance came in 1978, when they lost to the Dallas Cowboys 27-10. They would go on to lose their next four Super Bowls, including a 55-10 blowout to the San Francisco 49ers in 1990.
Finally, in 1998, the Broncos broke through and won their first Super Bowl, defeating the Green Bay Packers 31-24. They would go on to win two more Super Bowls in the early 2000s, but they have not been back to the Super Bowl since 2016.
The Heartbreak of Super Bowl Losses
The Broncos have experienced some of the most heartbreaking losses in Super Bowl history.
In 1987, the Broncos led the Washington Redskins 10-0 at halftime, but they ended up losing 42-10. In 1999, the Broncos were favored to beat the Atlanta Falcons, but they lost 34-19. And in 2014, the Broncos lost to the Seattle Seahawks in a game that they led 24-14 in the fourth quarter.
