The Best Albums of 2023
From Lil Yachty to Olivia Rodrigo, from R&B to indie rock to Afrobeats, here are the best albums of the year
In a year that's seen the return of some of music's biggest stars, as well as the emergence of exciting new talent, there's been no shortage of great albums to choose from. Here are a few of our favorites:
Arlo Parks - My Soft Machine
Released in December 2022, too late for last year's best-of lists, SZA's SOS ended a five-year gap between albums with a bang. The album is a cohesive and personal exploration of love, loss, and self-discovery, with SZA's signature blend of R&B, soul, and hip-hop.
Jaimie branch - Fly or Die II: Bird Dogs of Paradise
After releasing Fly or Die in 2019, Jaimie branch followed it up with the equally excellent Fly or Die II: Bird Dogs of Paradise. The album is a genre-bending mix of jazz, hip-hop, and electronic music, with branch's trumpet playing taking center stage.
Lil Yachty - Let's Start Here.
Lil Yachty's fourth album, Let's Start Here., is his most ambitious and experimental yet. The album features a wide range of sounds, from trap to rock to psychedelic pop, and finds Yachty rapping and singing about love, loss, and his own personal growth.
Olivia Rodrigo - SOUR
Olivia Rodrigo's debut album, SOUR, was one of the most successful albums of 2021, and for good reason. The album is a raw and honest exploration of heartbreak, with Rodrigo's songwriting and vocals shining throughout.
These are just a few of the best albums of 2023. With so much great music to choose from, there's something for everyone.
