Rangers 0 Celtic 2: Hoops close in on title with Old Firm derby win
Match Report - Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow - Saturday 11th May, 2024
Celtic moved to within touching distance of the Scottish Premiership title with a 2-0 win over bitter rivals Rangers in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox Stadium on Saturday.
Goals from Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada gave the Hoops a comfortable victory in front of a sell-out crowd, and they now need just one more win from their remaining three games to secure their 11th league title in a row.
The match was played at a frantic pace from the start, with both teams looking to take the initiative. Rangers had the better of the early chances, but they could not find a way past Celtic goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Celtic took the lead against the run of play in the 25th minute when Furuhashi latched onto a long ball over the top from Aaron Mooy. The Japanese striker controlled the ball well and fired a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Rangers pushed for an equaliser, but they were caught on the break by Celtic in the 65th minute. Abada was played in behind the Rangers defence by Reo Hatate, and the Israeli winger made no mistake with a cool finish.
Rangers never looked like getting back into the game after that, and Celtic comfortably saw out the victory to move nine points clear at the top of the table.
