Rebecca Grossman Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison for Fatal Car Crash
Grossman Was Racing Former Dodgers Pitcher Scott Erickson
Rebecca Grossman, a 60-year-old Hidden Hills socialite, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for her role in a fatal car crash that killed two young boys. Grossman was speeding behind a car driven by her then-lover, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson, when she crashed into another vehicle, killing two passengers, 11-year-old Ethan Edwards and 12-year-old Matthew Robinson, on February 3, 2020.
Grossman Was Determined to be Doing 81 MPH at the Time of the Accident
Grossman's attorneys have consistently maintained that it was Erickson who was driving at the time of the crash. However, prosecutors presented evidence that Grossman's car was actually travelling at a speed of 81 mph at the time of the accident, while Erickson's car was only going 67 mph. Prosecutors also argued that Grossman was racing Erickson, and that she had been drinking alcohol before the crash.
Grossman Was Previously Convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon
Grossman has a prior criminal conviction for assault with a deadly weapon. In 2007, Grossman was convicted for beating her housekeeper with a hanger and throwing a wine glass at her. Prosecutors used this prior conviction to argue that Grossman is a dangerous person who deserves to be behind bars.
Sentencing Highlights Rise in Death By Reckless Driving Cases
In addition to 12 years in prison, Grossman was sentenced to four years of parole. In sentencing Grossman, the judge described her as a "narcissist who deserves life in prison." The sentence is among the longest handed down in Los Angeles County for a reckless driving case.
