Millions Of Pounds Of Meat Recalled

Mold, Bugs Found at Va. Boar’s Head Facility Tied to Listeria Outbreak

Millions of Pounds of Meat Recalled

Roanoke, VA - The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced a recall of approximately 114,489 pounds of ready-to-eat deli meat products due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The products were produced by Boar’s Head Provisions Co. Inc. of Sargeant Bluff, Iowa, and distributed to retail locations nationwide.

FSIS inspectors discovered the problem during a routine inspection of the company’s facility in Richmond, Virginia, identified as Establishment Number EST. 10086.

Facility Conditions Prompt Listeria Concerns

During the inspection, FSIS inspectors observed unsanitary conditions, including mold and insect activity, which could contribute to Listeria monocytogenes growth.

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Although no illnesses have been reported, FSIS is urging consumers to avoid consuming the recalled products and discard them immediately.

  • 1-pound packages of Boar’s Head Ovengold Turkey Breast with Rib Meat containing lot code 209372, with use-by dates of May 6–14, 2023
